A Dashboard Is Not a Decision
When increased visibility fails to translate into better action.

A substitute action in four steps
The situation
You build metrics, filters, diagrams, drilldowns, and reports. Everyone sees more data. But this increased visibility does not automatically lead to better choices.
Why it is tempting
Dashboards provide a sense of control and transparency. They are impressive to showcase and create the impression that everything is under management. Yet they take no responsibility for outcomes.
What it replaces
The actual decision regarding what consequences follow from the data. A dashboard can provide clarity, but it cannot shoulder responsibility.
The next concrete step
Formulate a concrete rule for one specific metric: If X happens, person Y must decide on measure A or B by time Z.
Substitute actions are human. Noticing them is not a verdict — it is an invitation to try the smallest real action.
