A substitute action in four steps
The situation
The bio was revised for the fourth time this month, the logo for the third. The last inquiry from an actual client was three months ago. But the brand, or so you tell yourself, is 'finally finding its shape.'
Why it is tempting
Positioning is visible and safe. It can be liked without anyone having to buy. It produces a sense of movement without any inherent risk — no one can say no to a bio.
What it replaces
The concrete message to a specific person with a specific offer and a specific price. The sale that might go wrong. The conversation where you actually have to name a figure.
The next concrete step
Today, write to three people who could use your offer — including price, scope, and a deadline. The bio remains untouched until after the third message is sent.
Substitute actions are human. Noticing them is not a verdict — it is an invitation to try the smallest real action.
